Hi guys. We are back from the sunny Punta Cana. While we had a great time it is certainly nice to be back home and even better to get back to home cooking. I was not impressed with the food we had on the resort. It certainly seemed like most of it was either fried or overcooked. Nevertheless we had a great time, met some wonderful people, sang Karaoke, gambled at the casino, walked a ton (the resort was huge) and most importantly RELAXED by the pool with all kinds of yummy drinks in hand. Although I was sure to lather on the sunscreen, my super white skin still got burned and I am officially “shedding”. At least that’s what I’m calling it. Have you ever seen an iguana shed its skin? Well that’s what my shoulders look like right now. I’m sorry I know it sounds gross. 🙂
The resort we stayed at was massive. Although there were transport trains available to take us around, we opted out to walk, well, at least most of the time. 😉 All that walking saved us from putting on a ton of weight. As a matter of fact I only gained 2 lbs in Punta Cana, but lost 10 lbs right before the trip.
This is where we spend most of the days, right in that water. Although the resort had an abundance of pools available, Kurt and I found a smaller, privately fenced adult only retreat. The energetic and fun bartender we made friends with ensured we had a drink in our hand at all times. The frozen banana daiquiri with rum was my favorite pool side cocktail.
The flowers and bushes were so pretty.
Coconuts were everywhere. I doubt that palm trees are indigenous to Punta Cana. They seemed to only exist on the resort. Off the resort the scene was much different. Jungle and trash seem to dominate the streets. Poverty and lack of structure was visible everywhere. We were told to stay on the resorts, although I doubt I would have gone to roam the local neighborhoods anyways.
Music was an essential part of the resort. After all we did stay at the Hard Rock Resort & Casino. I snapped a picture of this really old limo Madonna used to ride around in the 80’s. You can actually see where it was cut in 3 parts in order to fit into the lobby.
This motorcycle belonged to Billy Idol back in the day.
And this car was Sammy Hagar’s.
Well, I have to get back to reality now and go back to work tomorrow. But for now, I am still on vacation and I’m going to enjoy what’s left of it. 🙂 Time to go cook something. 🙂
