Weekend getaways are incredibly refreshing…. especially if you are fortunate enough to get grandma to babysit. I cherish the times when we get a few adult days alone, do the adult things we love and enjoy each other’s company. I enjoy our time to roam the streets, hold hands and be true foodies that we are. It doesn’t matter how far we go, all that matters is we are together, free of everyday chores, demands and must do’s.
Kurt and I got to get away this weekend… We went to one of our favorite cities within reach, Baltimore. It’s a short 2 ½ hour ride from New Jersey and it’s a trip we take several times a year. This city holds a special place in our hearts. We are two foodies in love and insanely addicted to Maryland seafood.
I don’t know if there is anything better than beer and crab. Armed with a knife and a mallet we can sit there for hours, cracking them open, pulling out the sweet meat, trying not to get our fingers cut. It’s almost inevitable, somehow one always gets me.
After an evening of overindulging, we got right back to it in the morning by visiting our favorite brunch bars and having killer Bloody Mary’s.
Then we headed down to our Nation’s capital.
What has become another favorite spot, Hot n Juicy Crawfish, serves bagged seafood swimming in tons of seasoning made spicy to your licking. I can’t explain how good it is. It’s just is. There are no rules here. Something about food eaten with your bare hands. Something about being all grown up, sitting at a restaurant while licking the sweet sauce of your fingers.
I’m glad we get to do this often. I’m thankful for the little things in life that make us happy.
Thank you Jenn at Peas and Crayons for hosting the weekly What I Ate get together.
